This semi-detached in Westmount was in need of a complete layout re-design. Our clients wanted to maximize living space and this meant removing an old staircase at the side of the house as well as changing the complete configuration of walls of the main and second floor. The goal was to create a more open living space where all of family life could take place and where our clients could keep an eye on their three young children. The overall aesthetic is rich in classical Parisian character which fits with the location and heritage of the home. The clients were drawn to rich, deep color tones of burgundy, gold, copper and greens which we incorporated in our material and fixture selections throughout.
Replacing the old vestibule door with a black metal framed glass door creates a more spacious feeling while also keeping the Montreal air from escaping into the home. We replaced the old closet doors with custom millwork painted in a smooth taupe finish with brass knurled hardware and installed a checkered marble tile to keep with the design history of the home.
As the semi-detached home was long and narrow, we utilized the length of the space to create a large design impact. The style is a blend of classic Parisian and modern/minimal, bringing the home into today while paying homage to its 100 year old history.
An oversized yet delicate pendant hangs above the dining area recessed in a round ceiling cove. Green velvet curtains add richness and vibrance in the room.
Previously, the old kitchen was placed in this section of the home, closed off with walls and had smaller windows and a smaller patio door. We purposely placed the new large window to the right corner where afternoon sun floods the room. A low consoles serves as storage for toys as well and creates a cozy reading nook for kids and adults alike. The powder room features a salmon lime textured paint and burgundy vanity paired with rich brass fixtures and a whimsical F.A. 33 mirror by Gubi.
The principal suite walk-in closet leads you to the ensuite bathroom so it had to be beautiful since our clients would spend a lot of time walking through that space. We designed closed storage for linens and bath products, as well as additional clothing and beauty products on the right side next to a floating stone vanity table.
The principal bathroom layout was expanded to include a wet room with an integrated shower and bathtub. The material selection is light and airy with some warm tones in the marble veining and rich burgundy in the custom fluted vanity.
Custom steel pill shaped mirrors paired with alabaster ball sconces exude a sense of playfulness against a glazed ceramic tile wall.
Our clients wanted their kids bathroom to be fun and colorful for their three young children. The existing layout was completely re-worked to include a separate shower and tub for practicality.
